Freshman's Motivation and Attitude Toward English Learning in EFL Context

Abstract

Language learning is influenced by various factors determined by learners and teachers. This study focuses on finding out students’ motivation and attitude toward learning Englsih. This study also higlights students’ demotivation factors. Survey study was used through questionaires and interviews. 80 freshmen were the sample of the study. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) is used to analyze the feedback obtained. The finding has shown most of students are instrumentally motivated in learning English and they are highly motivated in learning English. In other words, students have positive attitude toward learning English. External factors are more dominant than those of internal ones regarding with Students’ demotivation factors in learning English. Further study is required in analyzing the relationship of motivation and students achivement.
