A MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF WORD FORMATION PROCESSES IN THE NEWS HEADLINE OF THE JAKARTA POST

Abstract

This research aims to identify the type of word formation in the news headline of the Jakarta Post and the process of word formation in the news headline of the Jakarta Post. This research took the data from the news headlines of the Jakarta Post. And the data will be analyzed descriptively. This research uses a morphological approach based on Yule’s theory to analyze the data. This research revealed that 34 news headlines were data, and 101 words were registered into the type of word formation process, including the author found 18 compounding words, one clipping word, four backformation words, four initialisms words, 25 derivation words, 47 inflexion words and two acronym words. The results of the research also showed that "Inflection" is the most dominant type of word formation process in the news headlines of the Jakarta Post, posted on June 2022 concerning the topic of "Indonesia". In addition, four types of word formations are not found: coinage, borrowing, blending and conversion.
