AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS IN A RELIGIOUS SPEECH

Abstract

This research explores deixis in religious speeches, focusing on a speech by TGH. Syamsul Anwar. Deictic expressions, such as person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis, are analyzed for their frequency and impact on audiences. Findings reveal that person deixis is most prevalent, contributing to clarity and emotional engagement. The study underscores the importance of understanding deixis for English students and suggests further research in diverse fields. Overall, deixis enhances comprehension and spiritual connection in religious discourse, fostering self-reflection and community unity.
