CODE MIXING ANALYSIS IN A RELIGIOUS SPEECH (A SOCIOLINGUISTICS STUDY
Abstract
This research focuses on the types of code mixing used by TGH. Yusron Az-Zahidi, the factors affecting its use, and the grammatical units used. The study uses descriptive qualitative methods and recorded TGH. Yusron Az-Zahidi's speeches, which contain code mixing. The data analysis reveals three types of language mixtures: intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and changes in pronunciation. Intra-sentential code mixing is the most common type, occurring 36 times (75%). Factors influencing code mixing include talking about a specific topic, quoting others, emphasis, interjection, repetition for clarification, intention to explain speech content, and expression group identity. The Savile Troke theory also plays a role, with nine reasons for code mixing. The most common factor is repetition for clarification, occurring 16 times (33%), followed by group identity expressions (10 times (21%), and discussing specific topics (8 times) (17%). Other factors include intention to explain speech content, emphasis, interjection, weakening requests or commands, quoting others, and real lexical needs occurring once (2%). The study concludes that code mixing in TGH lectures is dominated by intra-sentential code mixing, with grammatical units mainly in words (71%).
