IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH MENTORING

Abstract

This study is generally attempted to find the effectiveness of mentoring method on students’ speaking skills at the eleventh grade of MA Rahmatul Ummah NW Sukaraja academic year 2018/2019. Speaking skill is one of the four basic skills in leraning foreign language besides listening,reading,and writing.It   is not easy for the students  to communicate in English. Mentoring Method is one of techniques can be used to improve speaking students because in this technique students will discuss with the In this research, the writer used pre-experiment method by using one group pre-test and post-test design. Where the writer did an experiment in a single group only, the sample of this research was 24 and used one group. The technique of collecting data was done by administered pre-test and post-test to determine the mean score, and paired sample t-test was used to analysis whether the alternative hypothesis was accepted or not. The result of this research pre-test was 45.2500 whereas the post-test 57.0833. In testing hypothesis the present research found that the significance value of the result of mentoring method was lower than 0.05,so that null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It implies that mentoring method was significantly effective in teaching speaking skills.
